I love to compare life with Jesus as a grand journey. When we understand that Jesus loves us and wants to partner with us, that’s when the adventure of life truly begins. He also has a future planned for us that is never boring! God, the Creator of the universe, wants us to walk with Him, through a lifetime of exciting challenges and excursions, like treasure hunts! Keep in mind, He created each of us and knows each of us to our very core, so this adventure is custom-designed. How amazing is that!? Regardless of what happens on that journey we can learn to rise above, trusting in Jesus as He leads us into His Good Plan for us.
This quest involves treasure hunting for details in the Bible: digging around and finding things we hadn’t seen or noticed before. On Sundays we learn Biblical principles and truths. It’s exciting to learn of new concepts, factoids, and connections we may not have seen – like beautiful rare gems. I love discovering the extra meaning of words, names, and places, because there are so many other layers to pick up along the way, adding to the backpack of our understanding. We are encouraged to look things up and not just hear it. I enjoy marking up exciting passages in my Bible, my treasure map, so I don’t forget, as it’s so easy to do. Adding art, colours, and page flags helps us find favourite scriptures faster – X marks the spot!
Wednesdays are often Bible study nights at church and they’re like short-term excursions. Sometimes we’ll go through videos highlighting locations specific to the Bible where they teach more in-depth connections to the significance of scriptures. It’s quite exciting to have these mysteries shown and explained, whether it’s the meaning of words or digging into the cultural meaning that can cause those “aha!” moments. Visiting another time and place through study enables us to see old facts laid out in new ways. It’s exciting to follow the trails within scripture to see where it leads us to next.
Along this trail of discovery we’re on with Jesus, we connect with others who join us on the excursions – our team. When we meet for Bible study nights, we can share about what God has done and is doing in our lives and encourage each other in this journey with Jesus. We can pray together and seek His Wisdom for when we run into the boulders of life. We press on together, working toward being more like Jesus and inviting others along with us: the more we journey alongside Him, the more doable this becomes.
To adventure with Jesus is to join my heart to His. He wants to be right there beside me and to help me grow and learn more of Him and His Ways. He desires to blaze the trail for me so that I can walk in freedom behind Him and live life to the fullest.
Blessed are those whose way is blameless, Who walk in the Law of the LORD. Blessed are those who comply with His testimonies, And seek Him with all their heart. Psalm 119:1-2 NASB
