Psalm 91

Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High
will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.
I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress,
my God, in whom I trust.”

I have always held this scripture close to my heart; it has been proven many times over in my life. These verses speak of the unwavering love of my God. This is a Psalm of protection and refuge, where we are safe and hidden. It speaks of a place to live in, not one to where we escape. This translation talks of a Ruler on His throne – a place where we are protected by the Supreme King, and one of inheritance, not pleading.

So many times, I have witnessed the protective hand of my God when He kept me safe and hidden in the palm of His hand. With that protection comes a birthright from the one enthroned, foreshadowing my eternal inheritance yet to be witnessed but no less sure.

What a picture of comfort! What a promise of comfort! He has truly shown me that He does answer before I even call out to Him (Isaiah 65: 24), which I am eternally grateful for.

Of this one thing I am confidant: that He will watch over His children twenty-four seven. There will never be a moment when we are not secure in Him. We need not fear, but rather rest in His unchanging Love.

I’ll leave you with The Passion Translation of this Psalm, since it says it so wonderfully:

Safe and Secure

91 When you sit enthroned under the shadow of Shaddai,
you are hidden in the strength of God Most High.

He’s the hope that holds me and the Stronghold to shelter me,
the only God for me, and my great confidence.
